A lot more goes into preparing for a move than just packing up your items. You need to get rid of clutter and clean your house. This process may seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Here is how to clean and declutter to prepare for a move.

Take It One Room At A Time

You may become overwhelmed when trying to get rid of clutter. It is why you should only strive to tackle one room at a time. Start with the one that you can declutter quickly. It will allow you to feel motivated and keep you from feeling overwhelmed. You may not be able to do more than one room in a day. It’s probably more realistic to make it a goal to complete each room for several days.

Trying to clean the entire house can be overwhelming. Consider decluttering one room at a time.

Be Realistic About What You’ll Need

You probably have a lot of items in your home that you don’t need. By getting rid of them, you will have less to move. When trying to decide whether or not to keep an item, try to remember when the last time was that you used it. If it’s been at least six months, there’s a good chance that you don’t need it.

Skip The Cleaning Until The Room Is Cleared Out

You may want to start cleaning your house before moving day. However, it will probably get dirty again. You will find that when you are moving furniture and boxes, dust and dirt can get thrown around. It is why you are better off waiting to clean a room when it is entirely cleared out. When it does come time to clean it, start at the top and work your way down. Clean the lights and the fans. Wipe down the walls and windows. Scrub the baseboards and sweep and mop or vacuum the floor.

When cleaning a room, start from the ceilings down to the floor so you won’t clean in circles.

Get Rid Of Items Right Away

When you are sorting your items, get rid of ones you don’t want to keep right away. You may wish to donate or put them in the trash. Don’t let them sit in your house. If you do, you may find that you change your mind and keep them. You will be less tempted to do this if the items are no longer in your possession. If you plan on selling some of your things, post them for sale right away. Make sure you put them in area of your home where you won’t regularly see them.

In conclusion, there is a lot that goes into moving. Your move can go smoother if you follow the tips mentioned above. By taking your time to declutter and clean your home before you step out of it, you can leave your home in the best shape possible for the next occupant.
